Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease in which the body experiences high blood sugar levels despite insulin being produced by the pancreas. Unlike type 1 diabetes, in type 2 diabetes, body stops responding to the insulin being produced and hence the individual suffers from high sugar levels. Shortly there are just 2 basic ways for prevention of type 2 diabetes
1) Exercise:
Well, yes this is one of the most essential part of prevention of type 2 diabetes. You have to get this down to your stomach that a regular exercise regime is something you have to incorporate in your life, if you want to keep your blood glucose levels under control. The best and the simplest exercise would be to go on a brisk walk and end it with a round of jogging or running. However, make sure you consult your physician before doing any sort of exercise, particularly if you have cardiovascular disease as well.
Apart from this you need to understand the importance of going for weight training as well. Weight training has proved to be very helpful in prevention of type 2 diabetes. Weight training basically does not only tone your body but also help your body grow lean muscle which takes up glucose from your blood as fuel that consequently maintains sugar levels in your blood. It does not let fat accumulate on your body which often exacerbates type 2 diabetes.
2) Diet:
This is the second and most vital thing to take into consideration, if you are serious about prevention of type 2 diabetes and want to live a healthy life. First of all you have to get rid of your habit of taking big meals. Instead try taking small meals 4 to 5 times a day with snacks in between. Moreover, you need to avoid intake of sugary items and simple carbohydrates, present in bread, pasta, starchy vegetables like potatoes, yogurt, milk etc. Instead, go for whole grains, fish, meat, fresh fruits (less sugary) and nuts etc.
Type 2 diabetes though cannot be treated totally but can be managed by keeping aforementioned things in mind.
